Midfielder itching to go again – if selected of course

Chris Lines is back in contention for a spot in Vale’s midfield when Sheffield United are the visitors to Vale Park tonight.

Lines has missed Vale’s last four game after he was sent off against Crawley Town and he is itching to get him boots on again and get out there on the pitch.

He said: “It has been a frustrating few weeks, more frustrating for the fact that I didn’t mean to do the foul in question, but it is one of those things, that’s football.

“People make decisions and as a player you can’t really say much about it, you have just got to get on with it.

“I have missed a few games, but there are two left and hopefully I can play a part in both of them.

“”I want to play in every game, I hate missing games and sitting in the stands watching is horrible. It is disappointing, but what we have done this season has still been unbelievable, we have had a cracking season.

“It is the best home record here for ten years and you can’t complain. We are eight h in the league in our first season, without spending anywhere near the same amount of the likes of Rotherham and a few other teams around us.”

Vale take on the Blades here tonight (8pm kick off) and Lines, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, acknowledges the job Nigel Clough has done since being appointed as manager.

He said: “He has been the major turning point in their season because they were really struggling at the start, which surprised everyone, especially me because I have played against them quite a bit recently.

“They are a massive club with a great fan base and they have got the players there that should be doing better, so maybe it just took that new manager to come in and sort things out.

“”They have had a great end to the season and I think if you look at them they are probably one of the favourites for next season.”
