Andy Smith Reflects On Charlton

19 October 2016

Last night, Port Vale fought back to grab a point at home to Charlton Athletic in League One.

The Valiants scored late on, with Alex Jones grabbing the equaliser from the spot, after he was brought down for the penalty.

In what could be seen as a game of two halves, The Addicks had taken the lead in the first half.

After the game, First Team Coach Andy Smith spoke to Valiant PlayerHD about his thoughts on the game.

He said: “I’m pleased with our second half performance and the first 10/15 minutes we started well, but then we lost our way a little bit and they came into it.

“They’ve got a big threat and the way they play, giving it to the big man pumping it long, it caused us problems and they played to their strengths.

“They’re a good physical team and second half we were a lot better and we got the draw and could have won it at the end.”

In what was a positive at the end of the night, Vale moved back into the top six with the draw, having fallen out last weekend.

The League is very tight at the moment, with just six points separating fifth position to 20th in the table.

Smith insists that Vale will continue to work hard to stay in the top six in what is a difficult league.

“We will keep plugging away and doing our thing.

“We’re still in the play-offs, it’s a very difficult league this is and anyone can beat anyone on their day and we’re still in top six that’s a positive.

“It’s always positive to bounce back, we would have liked three points but we will take a point and now we move on to the next game.”
