Mick Ede Reflects On FA Youth Cup Loss To Bury

19 November 2014

Coach Praises Youth Players' Effort

Port Vale youth coach Mick Ede has praised his players for their work-rate during Tuesday’s FA Youth Cup defeat to Bury and believes his side were unlucky to be knocked out.

Mackenzie Faulkner and Billy Reeves scored, while Jonny Kapend netted an injury time equaliser for the Valiants but their goals weren’t enough book a place in the next round of the competition.

George Miller bagged what turned out to be the all-important winner for the visitors after just one minute of extra time.

Speaking exclusively to Valiant Player, Ede insisted he was proud of his players despite the 4-3 loss.

“Obviously first and foremost we’ll commend the lads on their work-rate and effort throughout the 120 minutes,” he said.

“We think for most of the game we actually controlled it, especially the first-half when we go 1-0 up early – sometimes that can be a bit of a problem that you’re going to hang onto it for so long.”

“But that wasn’t the case, we did dominate the first half and we could have gone a little bit further ahead.”

“We had several chances, we had a lot of chances throughout the game, especially first half, and then we could have done a lot of our hard work in the first half.”
