STAND UP TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

22 October 2014

GMB’S CAMPAIGN IS HIGHLIGHTED AT PORT VALE

STAND UP TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, GMB’S CAMPAIGN IS HIGHLIGHTED AT PORT VALE FOOTBALL CLUB.

On Saturday 25 October 2014 the GMB will be making a stand at Port Vale’s game against Leyton Orient to highlight to football fans the effects of Domestic Violence and that on average 2 women a week are killed by a former or current partner that’s 104 women a year in the UK alone. Take a stand against violence now and sign our personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about men's violence against women.

GMB will be at the game selling white ribbons for £1 to football fans and to talk to them about the issue. The campaign will also be highlighted in the match programme throughout the season.

Domestic violence in the run up to World Cup games especially increases significantlyin the aftermath of matches – whether the teams win or loses.

The GMB are asking the footballing community to join with us to make a positive difference and to raise awareness and reduce the amount of domestic violence in the future.

GMB Trade Union actively campaigns against Domestic Violence and wants to make people aware that the amounts of incidents increase after football matches.

GMB campaigns to highlight the help that is available not just to the victims but also the help available to the people that commit acts of violence who want to change their pattern of behaviour.

Football doesn’t cause Domestic Violence but it can certainly be a factor that can compound it with certain relationships.
