Rob Page on Stephane Zubar

29 September 2014

Rob Page is happy to add defensive cover to his squad with the loan signing of Stephane Zubar.

Port Vale were delighted to announce the signing of Stephane Zubar on a one-month loan from Championship side AFC Bournemouth earlier today.

Interim Manager Robert Page he had one eye on the absence of Ryan McGivern who will be away on international duty and Frederic Veseli who is out with a rib injury, when bringing in Stephane.

Talking of the defenders loan deal, Page said: “It was an opportunity to bring a defender in. He’s got a bit to prove for himself as a player.

“It’s an area at the moment we need to strengthen with regards to Fredi breaking his ribs, Chis Robertson on the bench and Ryan on international duty for three weeks, which leaves us that little bit threadbare at the back.

“The thinking behind it is to get him in, he’ll have a weeks training with us this week, and then after Saturday’s game we lose Ryan for a couple of games, so it’s a bit of cover for him and we’ll see how he looks.”

On rumours that the club are after another one or two players, Rob said: “We’re not going to make any rash decisions and jump to anything.

“Myself and the chairman have had many conversations about development players coming in. Young Lads that can come in and maybe we can polish them, which can benefit us later on.”
