Page: Players Putting in Effort to Turn Form Around

15 September 2014

Rob Page believes the players are putting in the effort to turn their form around.

Assistant Manager Rob Page believes that the players have taken a knock in confidence, but knows they will keep putting in the effort to turn the poor run around after Saturday’s disappointing loss against Crewe.

Talking to the press earlier today, Page said: “They were never going to come in whistling and singing today and we didn’t expect them to.

“We tore a strip off them Saturday and it’s not that they weren’t putting in any effort on Saturday, they are working their socks off and we appreciate that.

“But there comes a point when you say all the effort in the world won’t win you games, you need to do the gritty side of the job first.

“When you don’t do that you set yourself up for a fall and that’s what’s happening currently.

“We’ll all work hard as a group and make sure we do everything we possibly can to put things right.

“It’s a long season, we knew that. During the course of the season you have good spells, you have your indifferent spells and you have your difficult times.

“Things aren’t going quite how we wanted them to at this moment in time, but we won’t cry or sulk about it.”

Page explained that they have to do the hard work to get the team firing on all cylinders again.

He also admitted that it is not the whole team performance that is the problem; instead it’s individual errors that are costing them points.

He said: “Nobody’s going to give us a helping hand or wave a magic wand, we’ve got to control that and put things right on the training pitch by working hard.

“I’ve been disappointed by the last couple of games and how we’ve conceded goals, but we’ve got an opportunity tomorrow now to amend things and put things right.

“If teams were carving us open every week, we’d be worried, but they aren’t, it’s individual errors that are costing us.

“You can go through 95% of goals we’ve conceded and you can say if he hadn’t have done that or he hadn’t have switched off… it drives you crazy.

“That’s the issue we’re addressing at the moment, and we will work and work until we put it right.

“The only way to come out of it is to work hard and if we do that it will turn, but it has to happen sooner rather than later.”
