MICKY PLEASED WITH PERFORMANCE

Boss happy with his side's showing last night if not the result

Micky Adams was obviously disappointed with the result against Leyton Orient last night but was rightly proud of the manner in which his side approached the game.

Vale can count themselves as a little unfortunate not to have won at least a point from the game after rattling the promotion hopefuls for much of the game, but in the end that counts for little in terms of rewards.

The Vale boss said: “When you lose games of football, which is going to happen, you want to do it showing enthusiasm and effort, and we had plenty of that tonight.

“I thought that we were slightly unfortunate to e going in at half time one-nil down, but Cox showed his quality there, and he is quality because I had him at Brighton and I know all about him and he is capable of that.

“I was really pleased with the first half efforts, I thought we had unsettled them – we didn’t manage to create many clear-cut chances, but certainly had them on the back foot for long periods of the half.

“I have just had a look at the so called push on Clarke – he goes down too easily for me and it is a goal.

“But we have not had the best of luck today with any sort of decisions that the referee has got to make so we are disappointed with that.

“I think the second goal could be avoided, I think we can defend that better, but we didn’t give up and I thought that the pace and the enthusiasm was there for everybody to see tonight.

“I thought we kept going, I thought we looked sharp and that is the pace of the game that you want and right from the kick off we really unsettled them.

“We got into their shorts, we stopped them from playing and they will admit they have been in a game tonight.

“In terms of positives from a team perspective there was bags of enthusiasm and effort for the game, but we just didn’t have the luck in front of goal that you need from time to time.

“Their ‘keeper played well, particularly in the second half and are disappointed to come away with nothing, but we have given them a good game.”
