Neal looks forward to return

But Vale 'keeper is expecting a hard game against his former side

Chris Neal is looking forward to going back to his old club Shrewsbury Town on Saturday and says it will be nice to see the stand behind the goal full of Vale fans once again.

The main thing, of course, is what happens on the field of play and Neal says Vale are not expecting an easy ride, despite Shrewsbury struggling for form of late.

He said: “They are at the bottom of the table and they are going to be fighting for their lives and the game is classed as a derby as well so it is going to be a massive game for us on Saturday and we are under no illusions that they will put up a good fight.

“We would like to go out and beat every team three or four or five, but if we could scrap a one-nil at Shrewsbury and the games coming up then we will take that and rack up the points on the board.

“When I played there for Shrewsbury against Vale, vale always filled that stand behind the goal so I am looking forward to seeing that again and hopefully they will get right behind us.

The Vale ‘keeper praised the spirit in the dressing room and that could make a he difference between now and May.

He said: “The lads that the manager has brought into the club are great characters and a few of them have played at this level before, so that helps us and helps the young lads that have come into the team as well and the camaraderie is fantastic.

“If we can just keep racking up those points, especially away from home, if other teams do slip up above us then it might give us an opportunity to slip into the play-offs.

“We just want to pick up as many points as we can between now and the end of the season.”
