Midfielder looks like being out for the season

Florent Cuvelier’s injury suffered just over half an hour into his Port Vale debut against Oldham Athletic on Saturday is unfortunately serious enough to keep him out for the rest of the season it has been revealed.

The 21-year-old, who joined Vale from Sheffield United only last week, was stretchered off after twisting his knee and must now face surgery.

Mark Grew said: “He wasn’t having the greatest time at Sheffield and he wanted to come here and show what he could do. He did really well in training and that’s why we played him on Saturday.

“There was nobody around him when it happened, he has just twisted and he has done his Cruciate. I know how he feels because I did exactly the same when I first came here and it is a horrible injury.

“You were probably looking at twelve to fourteen months recovery time all those years ago, but now you are looking about five months. It is disappointing but we wish him well and hope he can come back as soon as possible.

“It is one of those things that happen in football. It has happened and we have just got to look to the future and make sure everything is right medically for him.

“The physios at the two clubs are discussing things now and we will do what’s best for Flo and if he has got to go back to Sheffield United and recuperate then obviously that is something that will be discussed in the next twenty-four hours.

“We want the best medical treatment that we can get to get him back as soon as possible. He is only a young lad so the healing process should be quite quick.”
