Defender wary of goal threat
Former Coventry City loanee Richard Duffy is ready to face his former side on Saturday.
The Welshman played for Saturday’s visitors on four separate occasions – all loan spells and he is wary of their excellent start to the season despite their continuing off the field problems.
Duffy said: “From when I was there they were in the Championship and financially sound as far as I knew and to see what’s happening now is pretty sad.
“They’ve had a great start to the season and if it wasn’t for the minus 10 points they’d be right up there in the top six.”
Over 3,000 Coventry City fans are expected at Vale Park tomorrow and Duffy believes it’ll make for an excellent atmosphere.
“They’ll bring 2,500 or more on Saturday and it’ll be a tough game, all their games are away from home this year and this will probably be one of the closes games so they’ll take more fans away,” he said.
Striker Callum Wilson has scored eight goals for the visitors so far this season and as a side they have notched up 20, one goal behind leaders Leyton Orient.
Duffy is aware of the potential threat they could cause Vale but was quick to point out that Vale score goals too.
“They’ve got goals in their team; they’re the top scorers in the division so there’s no hiding away from the fact that they score goals.
“Going forward we’ve got goals in our team as well, if we can tighten up, not just at the back but also all over the pitch that can help the back four and the goalkeeper.”
