Yates signs two-year contract

Yates commits to Vale

Port Vale right-back Adam Yates has signed a new two-year contract with the club after agreeing terms a fortnight ago.

The 30-year-old made 32 appearances for the Valiants in all competitions last season, helping the side secure its first promotion since 1994.

The former Crewe Alexandra defender admits he never wanted to leave his home-town club.

Yates said: “I’m over the moon, I have never wanted to leave this football club, I’ve stated that publically a number of times, being a local lad it’s just the icing on the cake to what has been a fantastic year for this football club.”

Yates, who will be playing in League One for the first time next season believes there will be less physicality in League One, allowing Vale to play more of a passing game.

“Hopefully for us it wont be quite as physical and we will be able to pass the ball a little bit more, but we are a side that is high-tempo, we put a lot of pressure on teams physically, that’s the way the manager plays and we play and it got us promoted last year,” said Yates.

Yates follows Daniel Jones, Louis Dodds, Tom Morris, Chris Birchall and Sam Johnson in signing a new contract with the Valiants.

Ben Williamson has agreed terms but has yet to sign and former Cheltenham winger Kaid Mohamed signed a two-year contract last week to become Micky Adams’ first new signing of the summer.
