FA Youth Cup 2nd round
Bury 1 Port Vale 2
Vale youth team came back from a goal down to chalk up a well-earned victory at Gigg Lane,
thanks to goals by Nathan Smith and Luke Beesley.
Both sides had chances early on with Beesley having a shot saved and then Ryan Boot made a very good save from a near post header by Tom Pratt at the other end.
Tom Morris hit a 20-yard effort just wide and Jack Pryor fired over as Vale began to take control. Josh Croft had a mazy run through the middle but his subsequent shot was blocked.
Bury took the lead in the 48th minute when Regan Walker scored with a 20 yard shot that beat Ryan Boot for pace.
Vale then hit back in fine style with two goals in six minutes. In the 51st minute a free kick on the edge of the Bury box was superbly struck by Will Whieldon, only for it to hit the inside of the post and fly across the goalmouth, but Nathan Smith was on hand to turn the ball home.
Vale went in front in the 57th minute. Pryor hit a ball over the top that saw Beesley race clear and he finished in fine style with a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Vale could have scored more, but Beesley had a shot beaten away and Ollie Marland hit a shot just wide.
Overall a very good performance from the lads.
